Welcome to Little India!

Go on, through here. Then just follow the gallery round to the right, and all the way through, towards the maritime section at the end of this floor. <img src="https://s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/setmaker-sg/uploads/683vka3MUTeN37vWsU7B5H.jpeg"> Take your time, have a look around. But don’t get too distracted, I’m waiting. Go past the exhibits as shown, until you reach this section. <img src="https://s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/setmaker-sg/uploads/xfSEMaavwPa11xZ1PBZGbf.jpeg"> Once you’ve found this section, Mapping Migrations, you can go ahead and play the next video.

<img src="https://s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/setmaker-sg/uploads/jWdRWT6VZsaxwpYdi65Mqm.png"> This copper boiler (the "huge mother kettle") is the kind used to make 'boiler tea' in South India and Sri Lanka. You’d find these in tea shops, food stalls, restaurants… basically anywhere people needed strong tea and plenty of it. Water would be kept hot over a coal fire or another slow-burning fuel, and tea makers would keep brewing throughout the day. Very efficient. Also slightly dangerous-looking, which I respect. Now, while you're here, take your time to soak up some Indian Heritage. This is the Centre for it. Whether it's beautiful artefacts set in their historical context... <img src="https://s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/setmaker-sg/uploads/pCbCHzTDpyvj2E42QWkH1S.jpeg"> or stories and personalities from more recent Singaporean culture... <img src="https://s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/setmaker-sg/uploads/ncwbrtwsBCZsgZQ4wSmseW.jpeg"> there's lots to see. And yes, that's SS Rajula up at the top of the mural downstairs. <img src="https://s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/setmaker-sg/uploads/f3Qvfv824gMcy9mTqMgS3i.jpeg"> Because sea journeys are integral to the Indian Singaporean experience. When you're done here, make your way down to the lobby to continue the tour.

Your next stop is just across the road from the Indian Heritage Centre. Go down to the lobby, and when you get there, press play on the next video. Don’t worry, I’ll come with you.

Head to the corner of Campbell Lane and Serangoon Road. In the meantime, take your time and enjoy the shops along the way.

Take a moment here in Little India Arcade. Look around, take it in. Beneath where you’re standing was once a ritual burning ground used by early migrants.

I want to show you one of my favourite shops. Just take the escalator up. Indian Clothing

You’re welcome to look around at your own leisure. There are lots of great clothing shops here. To follow the path to my favourite menswear shop, just use the guidance in these photos. The clothing stall is about 20 metres along this path.
